Flashback: Does it matter that the Left has lost white men?

A question from Trump's first term that we still haven't solved

Note: I’m working on a piece that’s taking me a little longer than usual… while you’re waiting for that I thought it would be helpful to share this piece from my Medium blog from seven (!) years ago that touches on many subjects that have only become more relevant in the time it was published - especially given trends amongst men and women in the recent US election results. My thinking and my writing have both evolved a good bit since I wrote this, but plenty of the points are still worth thinking about, and are essential to understanding what’s happening in politics and culture today.
