I find it hard to be very conspiracy theory minded with regard to Irish politics but I do wonder who on earth these people are that go to these protests, to the point Im open to the idea someone is paying them. Heard a few commentators saying how it proves we now need hate speech laws.
Well in terms of who attends, I did compare it to jan 6th for a reason… i think it’s reasonable to assume there was some govt/ gardai presence, how big I couldn’t say
In the context of rich Western democracies I hate ALL protesters, whatever their grift. (I admire them in places like Iran and Afghanistan where it's heroic and dangerous.) The Dublin parliament protest sounds like something that should be roundly condemned but (at risk of What-aboutism) until Western publics come to understand that the preeminent 'Protest' of recent times was not Washington 'January 6'. It was the 2020 'George Floyd' 'mainly peaceful' orgy of opportunistic looting and violent thuggery plus edgy virtue-tourism plus plain old drama queening plus of course a fair bit of murder. Has it ever got called by its right name: a Far Left Protest. Not to my hearing. https://grahamcunningham.substack.com/
Well-written piece. Very interesting as an outside observer to Irish politics.

Conor, what is so objectionable about the protests? The motives or the methods? Both?
I would say the methods, this one got the attention it did because it got violent
Ah, well that is concerning. Thanks for the prompt answer!
I found Fintan's article typically infuriating but illuminating. Like you said, the quiet part was said out loud.
It angers me that he believes 20% foreign born is something to celebrate. He would never say that about a non-white culture.
I also don't understand why resistance to immigrations and the transgender ideology are somehow "far-right."
