Charlie Kirk, who was murdered a few days ago, was a human being in the prime of his life; he was shot in front of his wife and his young children, who will see his look of vacant terror, blood leaping from a bullet hole in his throat every time they close their eyes for the rest of their lives. The events may be absurd but the stakes are real, and serious. Despite that, there are other elements of the story that are worth talking about, even if they feel frivolous in comparison.
