Men as an Out-Group in Popular Culture

... and Sabrina Carpenter as the female Andrew Tate

Sabrina Carpenter launched a new album this week; in June it had been prefaced by a single called “Manchild”. As with a lot of her songs the subject matter was the useless repulsiveness of men:

“Stupid, or is it slow, maybe it’s useless,” (she sings of the titular boy) “… fuck my life, half your brain ain’t there… so dumb… I blame your mom… I like all my men incompetent… and I swear they choose me I don’t choose them...” “Hey men!” she says at one point the video, and the camera cuts away to two pigs in a jacuzzi with her so we know who she’s talking about. The video is of a piece with previous ones she’s released - for example “Feather”, where she murders various unsatisfactory men she comes across, blood splattering her face; at the funeral of one hangs a memorial of a victim stating “he was just ok.” This is her thing.
