Men, From the Inside Out
Why have we started talking about male voters like they're an unknowable alien species?
Let’s start with an observation, and a rhetorical question. I have never heard a man preemptively bring up the topic of the male loneliness epidemic that gets talked about in the media and online so much - have you? Why is that?
While you’re thinking about that, have a look at this study highlighted recently by Substacker Steve Stewart Williams:
A fascinating new paper reveals a sobering truth: People are more accepting of men falling behind in the labor market than women. Adding injury to insult, they’re also less supportive of government interventions to help men catch up.
Why? A big part of it is that people commonly assume that male failure is self-inflicted - that it’s due to lack of effort rather than bias or bad luck. As a result, people see men as less deserving of help.
This isn’t just unfair; it’s shortsighted. Men who fall behind often stay behind - and society as a whole bears the cost.
