Thanks so much for this. I really strained for a moment considering the opposite of curious and then curiosity. Apathy and stolid(ity) came to mind, but here, I think we’re looking beyond those words, deeper into the shadow and dangerousness of ‘stubborn disinterest’ the rageful claiming of oneself as hammer (when one is atrophied as a hammer, everything sadly seems to present as nail).
These days I’ve noticed such a shift in the voices of artists from my youth. Those of us who claim to be creative may often be in vehement disagreement with the types of laws you speak of, and, sadly, may also equally or perhaps more so be afraid of what might become of them for speaking their truths.
The world seems to be full of witch hunts these days, and, as with those hunts of old, most of whom who are burned and drowned are ‘other thinkers’ or those who had knowledge, experience, or god forbid wisdom, that challenged the prevailing powers that be.
Your article challenges me to be more courageous, for free speech is something I feel very strongly about, amongst other things. I’d like to think my version of activism is one of profound curiosity and question asking, one that gently pries open the minds of those that are fearful and blindly following…
Again, thanks for this, some good foraged food for thought, and action.

Opinions and knowledge exploded among the masses, leading to religous wars and a decline in the power of Rome.
So it is today. The legacy Media has been subverted and used to maintain political power ,by management of opinion and controlling perception.
Social Media and guerrila blogs now offer a myriad of alternatives ,expose Regime untruths and crimes.
This is a new type of revolution and a great danger to nefarious Regimes.
This is the reason they wish to control internet output with the Digital Services Act and Hate Speech Laws.
Power can not be supreme under the scrutiny of a Free Press.
The Free Press 4th Estate has been subverted by bribery ,blackmail and coercion. It no longer holds Power to account, and is now the 5th Column Propaganda arm of the Establishment.
The Section 31 mentality is baked into the cake, not helped by the Pravda school of journalism in DCU, founded by persistent failed leftie John Horgan. A friend who worked in RTE for years told me once it went almost straight from Stickies hive mind to pseudo left bell jar.

An elegant, eloquent and sharp rebuke to the wilfully ignorant and
the submission to the strait jacket
