I would at least try to watch the first movie as the liberal characters all flip their great moral virtue once they realize they have been disinherited.
Interesting analysis. I liked Glass Onion a lot less than the first one. Seemed to beg to be thought amusing. Daniel Craig was particularly arch, but Norton was even less believable as a real person. Just a straight up cartoon. Was this supposed to be a takedown of Elon? Imo this kind of movie reveals contempt for the audience. As if the filmmakers are so much smarter than us they feel the need to spell out the subtext lest we don’t get it.
I think I probably liked more than you did though yes still less than the first one. I didn’t pick up on that supercilious tone you refer to, but you’re not the first person to say it to me, which is interesting. I must rewatch with that in mind
I really enjoyed this analysis. I must admit I simply loved the first movie and was entertained by the second. I really try to enjoy the story and the acting and try to block out the political correctness since I know Hollywood cannot help themselves. Nevertheless I must agree the primitive dualism of Hollywood took a set of more complex and hypocritical characters in the first movie and turned them into more buffoonish tropes in the second. Perhaps they will serialize this as anime ;)
I enjoyed Glass Onion until it got to the home stretch. Now the film is going to pull the rug out! But… no. The only surprise was that there was no surprise.
I’ll either skip the next instalment (due out in December) or watch with a cynical mindset. Looking at the cast list, I’m guessing that Vera Draven (Kerry Washington) will prove the virtuous one.
You've ensured I'll never watch these movies, so thanks at least for that
