Great essay...from here in America, it seems that the Irish people with power and a platform - certainly the leadership and the media - are obsessed with fitting in with the right clique - the post-liberal, progressive, and "enlightened" cool kids in America and Brussels and wherever else they hang out. What do I know, I only go to visit family, but the country seems to have changed a lot in the last 20 years with the middle managers getting the upper hand. And they seem very happy to repress the general public. All these people complain about how controlling the Catholic Church was and then they turn around and behave repressively. It's crazy and sad.
